Craniosacral Therapy - CST for babies and children
Craniosacral
therapy is particularly well known in its ability to safely and effectively
work with babies and children. Many problems that babies suffer with e.g.
colic, sleeping and feeding difficulties, constant crying, irritability
etc. can have their origins in a stressful/anxious and /or traumatic pregnancy
or birth. Similarly, many problems that young children experience can
also be traced back to stress at these times or to later difficulties
e.g. hospitilisations, illnesses, side-effects to vaccinations, separations
etc.
Whilst Craniosacral therapy is a very effective means of treating babies
and children, its effectiveness can be greatly enhanced by incorporating
specific treatment methods from Prenatal and Birth therapy. This allows
the baby/child to more fully resolve all aspects of the underlying issue.
Young babies are often treated lying in their mothers arms, whilst older
babies and toddlers are usually worked with while they are engaged in
some other form of activity e.g. playing, reading, eating etc. Other therapeutic
processes may be used as and when appropriate.
It is recommended that all babies are given a thorough assessment soon
after birth, just to make sure there are no residual problems that might
compromise future healthy growth and development. On completion of a therapeutic
programme, it is recommended that babies and children have regular sessions
every 3 months for babies and 6 months for children in order to maintain
optimal health and well-being.
